He snaps his fingers, bringing my attention back to his face.

He mouths something that I can’t make out. I shake my head.

He creeps closer. I notice a few other things about him. Like the gun that he’s holding in one hand and some kind of knife in the other.

My eyes widen in understanding.

He’s here to save us.

I peer to my right and left. No one else is paying attention to him. I turn back to him.

“Where are they?” he mouths again.

I nod toward the cabin where Ms. Burgess is screaming.

“How many?” he mouths.

“Three,” I mouth back to him.

He nods and goes back into the woods.

No, I want to yell. Come back, don’t leave us here.

I’m about to do just that when he returns with another man, this one older, but similar looking. They creep closer to us, their eyes scanning everything around them. As they come closer I see the rifles strapped across their backs, the guns in shoulder holsters, the knives strapped around their legs and pistols in their hands. I want to cry.

If anybody can save us from the Tanners it’s them.

The tickle of a tear is on my cheek. I use a shoulder to wipe it away.

I don’t say a word as the younger one crouches behind me and uses his knife to cut through the ropes that bind my wrists. The other man goes behind MJ to do the same. I see him whispering something to MJ and MJ nodding in response. Once my hands are free, he moves down to my ankles and begins to saw away at the ropes there.

He glances up to me, his eyes focused squarely on mine. I have a hard time looking away and I think that’s his intention. “What’s your name?”

Instead of my name a cry escapes my lips.

“It’s going to be okay,” he says, still sawing away at the ropes. He takes a quick peek to his right, where the other man is working to free MJ’s feet. “My name is Jason, but all my fraternity brothers call me JC.” He attempts a smile. “You can call me JC.”

“I…I’m not your frat brother,” I say, in a stutter, as confusion clouds my mind. “I’m a girl.”

Why did I point that out?

“Really? I hadn’t noticed.”

“Huh?” I’m as confused as ever.

With my feet free, he crawls quickly up to my side.

“Are you still with me? You look like you’re about to freak out and bolt.”

I nod. Yes I’m okay and yes, I’m going to run.

“Stay with me sweetheart,” he says, in a rush. “I’m going to give you this knife and you’re going to free the other girls. After they’re free, I want you to take them where you first saw me, okay? Behind those trees are some backpacks, you wait there for us. Do you hear me?”

Yes.

“Answer me. Do you understand what I want you to do?”

“But what if you don’t make it. They can kill you,” I whisper. I can’t cover up the fear that is smothering me.

The smile he gives me this time is genuine, not at all forced, and all I notice are the deep dimples in his cheeks. “We got this.”

And for some reason I believe him. “Okay.”

JB looked toward the door as everyone else did. Taio stood at the entrance, with Eva on one arm and a taller female who looked just like him on the other. He waited as everyone rose to their feet.

“That’s his mother, Queen Fainia Xochis of Drazlan,” Lo’Ren said from the seat next to him. “It’s customary for you to stand when she enters the room.”
“I’ve already pissed him off today, no need to do it again if it’s not totally necessary.” JB stood.
Taio proceeded through the door, followed by three other females. JB immediately found himself staring at one in particular.
Her head was cast down slightly, her face obscured by waves and waves of jet-black hair that brushed the swell of her round butt. She wore a pale-purple form-fitting dress. The floor-length gown had designs made of colored crystals. Her skin was the same color as Taio’s, but different. It seemed to glow. Her build was tall and slender with a hint of curves where they were needed most.
She turned her head.
He caught his breath.
Beautiful.
As her lavender eyes locked on Lo’Ren, he willed her to look his way. Her features were sharp and foreign, but beautiful in every way. Her cheekbones were high and defined. Her lips were full and pink. She had a look of longing in her eyes and he wanted to know why.
No, he needed to know why.
Was she upset?
Who had taken the joy away from such a perfect female?
Look at me. I want to know you.
“Uh, unless you’re inviting Taio to kill you, I would sit down,” Lo’Ren said, tugging on his sleeve.
He glanced around to find he was the only one still standing. JB sat but kept his eyes on the female across the room. “Why would he kill me? She’s not human.”
“She’s his younger sister, Princess Saia.” Lo’Ren popped a piece of meat in her mouth and chewed. “Look the other way, human.”
That information alone should have been enough to make him turn his head and focus his attention on something else, but he couldn’t.

Rasha grabbed Saia in a bear hug and lifted her from her feet. JB watched, waiting for her to turn his way. His heart thumped. He wanted to go to her, meet her.
She was his.
He shook his head, trying to dislodge the misplaced thought.
Where the hell did that come from?
Then she turned toward him. Their eyes met.
And there it was.
His heart felt as though it was seized in a tight fist then dropped to the pit of his stomach.
“This is where you take my advice before you get into trouble.”
“She’s looking at me,” he whispered.
Every nerve in his body sprang to life. Her eyes were framed in the heaviest lashes he’d ever seen. And when she blinked, they looked like wings of butterflies.
He sighed and felt as if his body had melted into the chair.
Lo’Ren groaned. “Taio will kill you.”
“I don’t care.” He couldn’t drag his gaze away. A small smile graced beautiful full lips. Lips he wanted to claim for his own. From the side, her face had appeared long, but no, it was round and soft. Her nose was perky and petite. “Princess Saia,” JB said breathlessly.
Lo’Ren shook her head. “I shouldn’t have told you her name. I don’t want any part of this.”
“I would have found out anyway.” Nothing could have stopped him from knowing her name.
Lo’Ren blew out a heavy breath. “Did I mention that she’s Taio’s only sister?”

If you know anything about me you know that I'm stuck on alien invasions. I have an erotic series with Ellora's Cave all about it. But this past summer I had this idea floating around my head that I couldn't shake. It was about a girl who was stuck on Earth during a hostile alien invasion. I pushed her story into the background because I've never thought about writing about a teenager and let's face it, what sane writer goes from erotica to Young Adult?

Apparently me.

While in-between books I thought, what the heck, let's see what happens. There were a few bumps in the beginning. I thought about scrapping the project more than once. I knew right away that I wanted to do 1st person POV but I'd never written in 1st person so didn't understand how I was supposed to do it. For research purposes I cracked open my hunger games and used it as a reference. Like I said, it was a testy start but then something happened.

I fell in love with the book and the characters.

I've got 5 book planned for this series, but the true number will depend on the cooperation from my character peeps. 3 of the books will release this year (June, August and October) and two next year. Bless my poor editors heart for helping me through this.

To get you all started on what's to come I've written a prequel. You won't meet my main characters in this one, but you'll meet what's coming their way and what they'll be up against.

This one time, at band camp…aliens invaded earth. Sounds like a bad riff on an old joke, doesn’t it? Unfortunately for me and my friends, it’s all too true. I thought a mess like this only happened in the movies but, as I watch the alien ships hovering over the major cities, I suddenly realize I’m a thousand miles away from my Mom. From home. From safety.

 Darkness may have fallen over the world, but I won’t let it claim me. I’ll do anything I have to get back to Michigan. Yet nothing could prepare me for what we find on our trek north from Tallahassee. There’s hardly anything the aliens haven’t bombed. Survival, at any cost, is the name of the game for the few people who haven’t been killed or captured. As if trying to stay free and alive isn’t enough, I think I just met the love of my life. And he’s just the kind of bad boy who’ll tear down the walls I’ve built around my heart—then break it.

This book is written in first person. Young Adult, but some scenes may be too intense for younger readers.

Oh, Happy Day

The first three books in my Loving Dangerously series are now available on Audible. I can't tell you all how this makes me feel. I never thought I'd live out my dreams of becoming a published author and then to have the books in my series picked up for Audible, well, words can't describe.

This has been quite a journey for me and sometimes rocky at best, but through it all it's been a learning experience that I wouldn't trade for the world.

I've never read a completed version of my books. Just thinking about it gives me the chills. Why? I'm so afraid of finding some grammatical or other error. Not anything against my editors or publish, I'm sure they've done a thorough job of going over everything with a fine tooth comb, but for me, since the book is final, I just can't risk it. LOL, crazy I know.

That's one of the reasons why I was jumping for joy when I found out that my books would be available on Audible, I could finally get a chance to "read" my work. I can't wait to listen and get pulled into my world and characters again.

“How’re you feeling?” the man asked her. His eyes held only concern.

“You don’t really need to answer that if you don’t want to. My name is Robert Smith. What’s yours?” The man was still watching her with an intensity she wasn’t accustomed to. He looked so normal, but her life had been ruined repeatedly over the last two days by “normal” looking people. He wore a blue and red flannel shirt that had some dark stains on it. Blood, she thought. My blood.

“Willie,” she croaked. Her throat hurt and burned. She was really thirsty. “Could I have something to drink, please?”

“Sure, just take it slow, okay?” He handed her a small plastic cup filled with ice chips and water. She sipped it like instructed while she studied him. Dark brown eyes watched her with concern and perhaps a little weariness. Tousled brown hair stuck up in random clumps giving him a rumpled look. He looked pretty normal, she thought.

“How did I get here?” she asked. She shied away from the memories that threatened to invade her mind again. The black eyes sucking her will from her, the strong hands that grabbed her arms and held her still as those sharp teeth sped toward her throat. She shivered with the memories.

“Well, I found you in the woods and brought you here. Willie, I need to talk to your parents. I’m sure they’re worried sick about you.”

“No, they aren’t worried,” She choked on the words. “They don’t give a shit about me.”

“Hey, watch the language,” Robert scolded with a scowl marring his face. “I don’t care if they care or not we have to call them. I’ve gone around the system for your treatments, but now that you’re awake we have to have someone responsible for you making decisions.”

“You can call them, but they’ll just come here to kill me. They dumped me in Old Forge. They don’t want me, and they won’t want to know that I’m alive. It’ll screw up their story.” She clenched her teeth together and lifted her chin. Unshed tears glistened in her eyes. She wouldn’t cry in front of a stranger over her parents. Shit. They weren’t her parents. No parent could drop off their teenager in the middle of nowhere and hope they died just because they weren’t normal.

“What do you mean they dumped you?” He scowled and sat back. He crossed his arms across his chest and waited.

He moved me into a rectangle of light reflecting from the corridor through the sight panel. His eyes changed from golden to indigo and his angular face softened. He released his hold on my waist and drew his fingers gently across my bare cheek. “Lavisha?”
