A Summer for Scandal by Lydia San Andres

Genre: Historical Romance

The train, which had until then been rumbling underfoot, jolted to a start, making Mr. Torres lose his balance. He stumbled, and would have fallen on her if he hadn’t caught himself in time, one hand on the back of the seat and the other flat against the window, his face perilously close to hers. At this distance, she could see the tiny patch of stubble by his ear that he’d missed while shaving, and the two freckles under his right eye. An unexpected warmth stole through Emilia.

He righted himself and sat down beside her, but not before she had caught a whiff of lavender-scented soap. His hair, still damp from his recent bath, curled at the neck, right where it brushed his collar. Emilia felt herself flushing slightly and turned to the window, pretending to be interested in the view of the town as it rolled past.
But there was no ignoring him. She could feel the warmth of his body all down her side, from her shoulder to her foot, even though they were separated by some ten centimeters. Trying to look as though she was glancing through the opposite window, she studied his profile. Except for the bookish sultan, all the men in her stories were rakes and scoundrels. There was nothing roguish about Ruben Torres. His hair was parted on the side and slicked back with pomade, his collar neatly pressed and his hat a sober black. He was nothing if not respectable.

Unremarkable, too, at least at first glance. He was of medium build, taller than her but not as tall and physically imposing as Luis. But his shoulders were pleasantly broad and Emilia was all too familiar with the sharp definition in his arms and the easy way he’d pulled the boat through the water. He turned to her then and caught her looking. His lips spread into a smile and he raised an eyebrow, saying, “Contemplating your next assault?”
Something inside her fluttered but she pushed the sensation aside. There was, after all, was no reason why she should feel so unsettled by his proximity. Trying to look as though she hadn’t been admiring his arms, which were hidden by the sleeves of a dark charcoal suit, she said, “Of course not. My dastardly plan is already in motion.”

“I don’t doubt it,” he said, laughing.
“I see you’re quite recovered from your swim in the fountain.”

“And I see you’re quite unrepentant of your part in it. Do you make a habit of dunking men, Miss Cruz?” he asked, amusement lingering in his eyes.
“I try to do it at least once a week,” she answered gravely. “Especially in the summer. I find it helps keep tempers cool when arguments grow heated.”

“As with other pursuits, I find an argument that isn’t heated isn’t worth having at all.”

Geek Meets Girl, in the Falling in Love box set by Kathryn Lively

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Mick Wray savored her withering reaction. He’d attended enough sci-fi cons to know how to push a fangirl’s buttons. The first time he attended Liberty BellCon—a pimply thirteen, helping his older brother cart a boxful of Poul Anderson novels for the author to sign—he saw maybe a handful of women. Yes, there’d been a few die-hard, legitimate fans of the genre, but others had merely come along with their significant others, sighing and glancing at their watches. The surge of female attendance in recent years brought on by a collective fondness for handsome British actors and sparkling vampires annoyed him to no end. Mick felt their presence cheapened the spirit of an event he loved, though he knew the organizers greatly appreciated the money these giggling young girls spent.

He studied this woman, and the scarf obviously purchased from some geek paraphernalia website, and wondered if she’d actually seen a Doctor Who episode from the era represented by that particular article of clothing. He supposed he could quiz her with some the questions he hoped would come up at the panel—of course he had intended to go. The Quantum Leap remark served entirely to irritate her. Hey, if he was going to be stuck in this elevator for a while, he might as well have some fun.
“What’s wrong with Quantum Leap?” he demanded.

He thought to look menacing, but he refused to frighten the young woman. Indeed, he found her naturally disarming. She wore no makeup, and her soft blue eyes glared daggers at him. He sensed the temperature rising already.
“Nothing, I like the show fine,” she said. “I wouldn’t rank it above Doctor Who on a list of top sci-fi shows, specifically where time travel is the focus.”

Mick folded his arms and settled in for a plausible explanation. The most sparkling of the vampire fangirls probably knew enough to bluff through such a discussion, and he couldn’t wait to hear the lady Doctor expound on her viewing preferences. “Fine, I’ll give you that the show only lasted a few seasons, but compared to Doctor Who every friggin’ television series is short-lived. Judging on what’s available for Quantum Leap, you can’t deny the high quality of acting, or writing…”
“The narrow scope,” she added. “Exactly what is the science behind the accelerator device that allowed Sam Beckett to leap physically into other people’s bodies at different points in time? Wouldn’t it make more sense if he traveled through time as himself, without the confines of another identity to memorize?”

“That’s the thing: each episode is a challenge. It’s not so much he has to solve a puzzle as a fish out of water, he is part of the puzzle and has to figure out that piece before finding the rest. He discovers the self he is in that time, acclimates to his environment, then he solves the mission. Sometimes he doesn’t get the chance and has to do everything at once. That makes for an interesting drama. What science is found in a flying blue box manned by some goofball with weird fashion sense?” Mick posed.
She winced at that. Off came the metaphorical gloves. “The Doctor is an alien, using alien technology, and at least he has better control over where and when he travels. Quantum Leap was limited to a forty-year time span in the twentieth century. Yeah, you could put Scott Bakula in a dress for one episode and get some laughs while he pretends to be a woman, but eventually they were going to run out of ideas. Doctor Who had all of time and space to work with.”

Mick snorted. “And yet, every other episode in the last few series brought him back to present-day London. What a stretch.”
Her eyes narrowed. Oh, but she looked cute this highly annoyed.

The General's Wife: An American Revolutionary Tale by Regina Kammer

Genre: Historical Erotic Romance

The Memoir was written by a girl a little younger than herself, but with a far more vigorous and enterprising spirit. Clara had never read such a story! Fanny Hill’s adventures were of such voluptuousness Clara had to glance around to ensure she was actually alone. Her body heated as Fanny was seduced by a woman, her ire raised when Fanny’s virginity was offered to a man far too old for her, her sex tingled and swelled as Fanny awakened to the pleasures a man could bestow upon a woman.

Clara shifted on the cot trying to relieve the wet tightness between her legs, only managing to arouse herself further. She pulled her cloak around her shoulders and leaned against the cold stone wall, her legs splayed open and crossed. When Fanny opened the parlor door to see a beautiful, sleeping youth, an idea sparked in Clara’s mind that she could touch herself as she read, a thought dismissed quickly. The pleasures of the mind were far more respectable than the sins of the flesh. Better to be caught reading an immoral story than to be caught assuaging one’s lust. Whatever would the captain think if he happened upon her in such a state? Clara smiled. Perhaps he would—
The door to the captain’s quarters crashed open.

She jumped, flattening herself against the wall, her heart pounding so loudly she was sure whoever had just entered could hear it. She peeked through a tear in the annex curtain.
Captain Taylor and Lieutenant Hamilton entered the bedroom with a clandestine air. The lieutenant bolted the door as the captain stripped off his jacket and threw it on the bed, clearly cross and irritable, muttering about that “blasted woman,” as the lieutenant countered with “Sam, Sam,” and soothed him with calming words. Clara could not quite hear what they were saying but she was certain she was the topic of conversation.

Suddenly, the captain pushed the lieutenant against the wall and took him in a violent kiss. Clara froze. Two men kissing? She had never heard of such a thing. The men tore at each other hungrily, stripping off clothes, biting, clawing, licking each other like animals in heat, until, finally, they stood completely naked, and simply pressed themselves together in a tangle of arms, their mouths and tongues still teasing tenderly.

The Undercity Chronicles  of Babylonia Jones, P.I.; The Guicai Talisman by A.M. Griffin

Genre: Urban Fantasy

What does a woman have to do to prove she belongs in the Undercity? Sure, I’m unclassed and only half paranormal, but that doesn’t mean I can’t solve cases. Since the established PI’s won’t acknowledge my right to a territory, I’m taking jobs from whoever will hire me, doing what I do best…proving myself to be a bad-ass problem solver. Which is how I find myself breaking into Zaid’s house, looking for a talisman my witch client says the very powerful vampire stole.

Now, I can make flowers grow, hear the wind’s whispers and talk to animals, but I don’t have the gift of seeing the future. If I did, I’d have known not to take this case. Because no matter the outcome, nothing good can come from messing with the Guicai Talisman, or it’s far too gorgeous guardian.

COMING: March 2016

Not Just a Friend by Laura Jardine

Genre: Contemporary Romance

“If he asked for my number, there must be something wrong with him.” Maya stuffed a bite of waffle into her mouth and waited for her friends to contradict her.

“Don’t say that!” Kristy’s fork clattered to her plate. “There is nothing wrong with you.”

“It’s not that I think I’m a bad person,” Maya said.

“But past experience has taught me that any guy who’s interested in me is somehow defective.” Take her ex-fiancé, for example. Justin was a police officer, but it later turned out he was also a drug dealer. And he cheated on her. Yeah, Maya sure knew how to pick them. Her previous boyfriend was fired for stealing from his employer.

Allison asked for a coffee refill then said, “You’ve just had some bad luck. Don’t let it stop you.”
Maya sighed. “I don’t know.”
“Come on.” Kristy reached across the table and placed her hand on top of Maya’s. “You’ve hardly dated in the past four years.”
And everyone she’d met for a first date was someone Kristy had set her up with. Les and John and Anton. Although they were all nice enough, Maya hadn’t been on a second date because none of them had interested her. Not only was she unable to attract men who weren’t losers, but she'd never liked the nice guys anyway. She sure was great at this dating business. At least today she had lots of strong coffee and a big plate of banana waffles with whipped cream to comfort her. Plus a couple of friends she’d known since university. Brunch at the cheap diner near campus was something they still did occasionally. Life wasn’t all bad.
“I’m telling you,” she said, “there’s got to be something wrong with Tyler or he wouldn’t have asked for my number.”
“But you’re going out with him,” Kristy insisted. “When he calls—”
"Hell, maybe he won’t even call. That wouldn’t surprise me.”
“I bet he’ll call,” Allison said.
Maya snorted. “What makes you so sure? You don’t need to say stuff like that to make me feel better.” She drowned her last waffle in maple syrup. “Either Tyler won’t call, or he’ll call and prove himself an asshole. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But fine. If he calls, I’ll go out with him just so I can say I did.”
“It’ll go well,” Kristy said. “You’ll see.”
“I need some of your happy pills.”
Maya wasn’t quite as hopeless as she acted. The Justin debacle was a long time ago now, and she had a kernel of hope that maybe, just maybe, it would all work out for her. Kristy and Allison were in happy relationships, as were three of her younger siblings. And a guy had asked for her number the other day. There was hope. Maybe just a little, but there was some, wasn’t there? But she didn’t say that out loud, even to her closest friends. That wasn’t who Maya Gregory was to the world. Not anymore.

Fall Into Darkness by Valerie Twombly

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Ashley wandered through Eli’s bedroom, noting how bare it was. Except for a queen four-poster bed, a dresser, and a fireplace, there was nothing else here. She wondered how lonely he must have been to never make a real home in one place. Eva had told her this small cabin in the north woods was always his favorite and that was why she’d asked to be brought here.

After stoking a fire, she donned the short red nightie that hardly covered her breasts and left her long legs exposed. There was no way he could resist, not if he were half as needful as she, and something told her he would be more so. She hoped he’d be so lust ridden he’d complete the bond. Guilt filled her for what she was about to do, but she’d do anything to save him. She’d worry about the aftermath later. The double-winged tattoo on the back of her hip burned, and she’d learned it meant Eli was close by. Was he watching from a distance? She stepped into the soft light of the fire, knowing it cast a sensual glow across her skin. Yeah, she was pulling out all the stops. A cool breeze whispered across her skin causing her nipples to tighten.

He was here.

She turned, and when her gaze fell upon him standing in the shadows she gasped. His naked chest glistened in the firelight that reflected across the room. A thick rope of muscles coiled just under his skin, and her fingertips itched to touch him. Dark jeans, settled so low on his hips, she could see the dusting of hair that led to his sweet spot. However, it was the massive black wings that stretched out and brushed the ground that really drew her attention. Her fallen angel was dark and sinister, yet every fiber of her being said he’d never harm her. He’d come to her and she was determined to finish what they’d started.
She was determined to save his soul. “Eli.” She took a step closer.
He flashed a set of fangs. “I’ve never been weak in my entire life, but with you… You are my weakness. Look at me Ashley, I’m one step away from claiming you. Being mated to me will be a fate worse than death.”
Another step. Careful not to scare him off, she stopped short of being able to reach out and touch him. Opening her mind, he could feel everything she did should he choose to.
“You’re wrong. Walking away from you would be a worse fate. You’ve touched something deep inside me. Fate brought us together because we need each other.” She took the last step and placed her hands on his chest.
He stiffened beneath her touch. “I need you and I don’t mean just the physical. I mean emotionally as well. You have my heart as well as my body. All of me, it belongs to you.”

Jack the Stripper by Jennifer Macaire

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Taking a deep breath, she turned the page to the last photograph. In that last picture she posed proudly on the front steps. She was wearing her police uniform. It was her first morning on the job, and the last photo her grandmother ever took. A small sigh escaped her and she touched the picture lightly, remembering the crisp feel of the uniform and the almost bursting-with-happiness feeling she’d had. A week later someone had pushed her grandmother down and stolen her purse. When she fell, she’d broken her hip and died not long after from what the doctors called “complications.”

Brianna knew all about complications. Her whole life was one complication after another and it didn’t seem like things were going to change.

When Jack got back it was late. Brianna had sandwiches on the coffee table. She’d left the albums out, and Jack took a sandwich and poured over the photos, making her tell everyone’s stories.
But there was one more album. A folder, more like it, with just some newspaper clippings in it. Brianna had hesitated for a long time before getting this one out. Finally, when Jack had exhausted all the stories about her grandmother and her camera, she slid the folder from beneath the bottom album and pushed it across the coffee table toward him.
He took it and opened it on his lap. Then he looked up at her, his expression unreadable.
Brianna crumpled her napkin in her hands. “I know you say you have some holes in your memory. I thought perhaps this would help.”
He fingered the clippings, then nodded, and held them up to study. “My parents didn’t come to my funeral because they’re dead. But I recognize my aunts and uncles, my grandparents even. That’s my cousin Joey and his twin, Melanie.” He closed his eyes. “It’s like standing in the surf. The waves come at me, and I can’t stop them.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s all right.” He ran his finger over the newspaper.
“Do you want to call anyone? Your cousins?”
He gave a laugh, but it sounded more like a sob. “No. They were at my funeral. They won’t believe me, or they’ll be horrified … like you were.”
Brianna was going to tell him she hadn’t been horror-struck, but she couldn’t. She’d been so frightened she’d peed her pants. She’d never been as shocked as that moment, when Jack had said his name and turned around. If she’d had a weak heart, she’d be dead right now. As it was, she had somehow accepted that Jack was back, but he wasn’t the same Jack she’d known.
She didn’t feel the same way about him. There was a difference. She’d only known him for about a month. What would it be like for his family, who had known and loved him all his life?
“They deserve to know though,” she said.
“I’ll be a monster to them,” said Jack. He smoothed the newspaper clipping over his knee and a faint smile tugged his lips. “There was a nice crowd there that day. And there you are, right next to Joey.”

Against The Darkness by A.M. Griffin

Genre: Dystopian, Young Adult

“Shayla,” I say with my voice in a mixture of a whisper and whine. I’m scared to say anything louder.
Stomp, stomp, slide.

My left.
I peer in that direction, lifting my sword, pointing it to whatever will come at me. It shakes in the air, my hands almost too unsteady to hold it.

Stomp, stomp, slide.
Shayla approaches my back. “Your turn.”

Stomp, stomp, slide.
“Something is here,” I choke out.

She inhales sharply and steps back, away from me. Only after I feel the tug on the back of my shirt do I realize that she has me, pulling me with her. I take a slow deliberate step back and then another, letting her guide me as I keep my eyes peeled for them. We move to the far corner of the room. All the while the stomp, stomp, slide comes closer and closer, louder and louder.
Briefly I wonder if they can hear it in the basement. They have to. Will they come up and save us? Could they even risk it? I don’t think so. We’re on our own until the aliens leave.

I know we’re at the wall when Shayla stops abruptly and she leads me to rest my back on the wall. We’re standing side-by-side, but I get the feeling that I should stand in front of her. I’m the only one with a weapon. So I do.
“No,” she whispers. “What are you doing?”

“I have a sword.”
“Yeah, one that you’ve been having for all but five minutes.”

“Shhh,” I hiss.
After a blink, it’s there, blocking the entrance. A lizard, green and scaly. Eight feet tall, rippling muscles, staring at me with yellow eyes with black, diamond-shaped iris.

How can a lizard be muscular? My mind screams.
I whimper as it stares down at me, its breathing heavy.

A warm rush of urine travels down my legs.
Shayla’s scream seems to pierce through me.

“You will submit to us.”
Oh, God, No!

Spirit on Fire by Katlyn Conrad

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Erotica

The werewolf paid cash, sliding the change into the hip pocket of his jeans. At the other end of the counter Samantha pretended to study the flyers on the cork bulletin board—a high school production of The Tempest, a ten percent discount on acupuncture, a tai chi class at the local Y. The scent of coffee and the whir of an espresso machine filled the air, suddenly stifling. Samantha had time to grab coffee but not for a were encounter. And if she was late for work again tonight she’d lose this job, just like she had all the others.
Don’t see me. Don’t see what I am. I am normal. I am invisible. I am shielded by a protective light…
Too late.
Her heart roller coastered downward. He was striding toward her. She met his eyes, determined to show no fear. The werewolf almost looked human. His plain white tee stretched tight against washboard abs. There was a hint of a shadow about his chiseled jaw and in her mind’s eye she caught a flash of rumpled sheets and sex. Like a photographic overlay, the spirit of the wolf shifted inside and around him. It snarled at her and her spine stiffened, the skin on her arms tingling.
There was no call for the were to be rude, she thought.
He stopped in front of her and leaned against the counter. His gaze took a leisurely stroll from her low-heeled boots to her mahogany hair and corkscrew curls.
Petite and curvy, she was a twenty-something morsel in a lipstick-pink trench coat. “What’s a girl like you doing in a place like this?” His voice was a husky growl.
“I think you’re supposed to say, ‘nice girl like you’.”
“No.” He grinned. “I meant what I said.”
Dammit. He did know what she was. And worse, she was responding. Her pulse rose, warmth flooding her cheeks. She hated this because a part of her wanted to smile, to flirt. Sam was lonely and not proud of the fact. But once the were and his clan discovered she was broken things would go bad. Fast.
The weres were all about survival of the fittest, and the broken were a danger to the pack. She’d be driven out at best and at worst…
She pushed that memory aside, the beating from a pack of female weres who had left her for dead. The surgeries that had followed. The drugs. The confusion. She’d wanted to die then, had expected death.
God, how she wanted to be normal.

Bear Your Fangs by Aurora Russell

Genre: Paranormal Erotica

“If you keep looking at me like that, I’ll forget what little honor I have left and I will take all that you offer.”
The man bit out the words as if he were in agony, and Eva realized that she’d been standing there, leaning over him with her cleavage exposed provocatively, having a full-on fantasy about a complete stranger. A scary complete stranger. And yet she still wasn’t afraid he would hurt her.
She was…drawn him, more strongly than she’d ever been drawn to another. Eva felt a flush creep from her cheeks across her chest and up her face until she thought her whole body must be rosy. When she darted another glance at the man’s face, it showed naked hunger and…longing. Great, gnawing longing.
“Why don’t you tell me what I’m offering?”
Eva couldn’t believe that throaty, temptress’s voice had come from her mouth, but she couldn’t regret her words when the man drew in a sharp breath of pleased surprise. At least he no longer looked so sad. Instead, a trace of hopefulness was now evident in his gaze.
“If you truly wish to help me, I need to taste you.”
He looked tentative, and so hopeful and unbelievably sexy, despite his grievous injury, that Eva had to step closer to him, still touching his shoulder. She noticed a faint accent in the cadence of his words, too, which somehow made him even more appealing and less threatening.
“Taste me how? My blood?” she whispered.
The stranger looked her straight on, holding eye contact. “I need blood, yes, but I also need to taste your woman’s honey. That will truly speed my recovery. But once I’ve tasted you, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop until I’ve possessed you fully, not with the blood of the fight still in my veins.”
Eva quaked at the thought of not only trusting this man to drink her blood but also opening up for him in a way she’d never opened for another man. Her ex-fiancé had never even wanted to try giving her oral sex once in the years they’d been together. She realized that, even if this stranger hadn’t just been injured saving her life, she wanted to do this. She wanted this man so much she ached with yearning and practically shook with her need, feeling suddenly empty.
“Yes,” she breathed.

Releasing Rage by Cynthia Sax

Genre: Sci-fi Erotic Romance

“I serve you. You’re my cyborg.”
“I’m your master.” His eyes glowed with pride and passion. “You belong to me, are mine to do with as I will.”
“Yes, sir.”
She couldn’t form a longer reply. Her breasts were alive with his touch, his nanocybotics working her like a thousand tiny tongues, concentrated where his mouth engulfed her skin. Her pussy warmed with the friction of his palm.
“Right now, I wish to repair your damage.” He laved her breasts with his tongue, covering her with his unique form of care, spreading his seduction across her entire chest, and she writhed against him, fighting her release, wishing to delay this delicious torture. “I want my female in prime condition when I breed with her.” Rage pushed two of his large fingers inside her.
She whimpered, the fit tight, stretching her.
“You’ll take me, little engineer.” He spread his fingers, increasing the pressure. “Not today. You haven’t yet earned that reward.” He pumped her, his rhythm fast, hard, squeezing the breath from her chest. “But soon. I’ll fill your snug human pussy with my cyborg cum.”
“Yes, sir.” Joan wiggled, impaled on his fingers.
“I’ll breed with you whenever, wherever, however, I desire.” His lips moved against her as he thrust his fingers between her pussy lips, filling her again and again. “And you’ll deny me nothing because you serve me.”
“I serve you, sir.” Let me come, she wanted to beg yet didn’t dare. He was in control, would give her relief when, if he wished.
“When I tire of you, when you no longer satisfy my needs—”
She shook with want and need and an endless yearning. “You’ll kill me, sir.” Saying the words gave her some power and she wasn’t scared of death, only of not finding release.
“Yes.” He drove into her pussy with his fingers and nipped her breast with his lip-covered teeth.
She screamed, bearing down on his hand, taking him deeper inside her. Her inner walls constricted around him, as though trying to make their bond permanent. His mouth tugged and pulled at her nipple, extending her orgasm until she had nothing left, sagging against him. Rage drew her upward with one arm, this demonstration of his strength impressing her.
“My female.” He licked the scratch on her face. His nanocybotics warmed her skin as they repaired her damage. His fingers remained inside her.

Dark Velvet by Lisa Carlisle

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Savannah’s fingers traced the cool marble of the god’s muscular back and then the definition in his arm as he drew an arrow to shoot. She pictured Antoine bent over the sculpture, brows furrowed in concentration, losing sense of time as he polished each portion to perfection.
“Do you like this?” A deep voice whispering in her ear startled her.
She jumped at the sound of his voice, bumping back into his hard chest, and he caught her upper arms to steady her. Only one man in the castle spoke in that smooth French accent—the sculptor himself.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Antoine.” She fumbled taking a half step forward, away from him. “I shouldn’t have touched it.”
“No, don’t apologize.” He let go of her arms, but his warm breath tickled her ear. He took her hand, caressing her palm, which sent tingles up her arm. Her bottom lip quivered as he brought her fingers to rest again on the marble piece.
She thanked the gods he remained behind her so he couldn’t witness her nervous reaction, and she bit her lip to halt the tremors. This was not the way for a young protégée to behave in front of her benefactor. He owned the castle, created the art colony here where she was attending on a poetry scholarship—she shouldn’t go gaga simply from his touch. Which was exactly what she was doing.
“It pleases me that you appreciate my work.” Leading her fingers down the figure’s chiseled chest, he leaned in closer and added, “I liked watching you admire it.”
His voice alone sent flames rippling through her. Every nerve in her being lit with awareness in reaction to him. In the months since they’d met, they’d never been alone in such proximity. Weeks of heated looks from afar had inflamed her desire so the slightest touch became intimate, strengthening her need for more.
Sounds of approaching voices indicated this evening’s performance in the chateau would soon begin. Several of the musicians in the art colony had collaborated on orchestral pieces they wanted to play in front of an audience for the first time. As fellow artists in residence, they sought the support of fellow residents.
Antoine kissed her hand like a suitor in a bygone era. “I hope you enjoy the concert, Savannah.”
Her lips parted, opening and closing like a fish while she thought of what to say. When she mustered up the courage to turn and face him, he had already left the room, filling her with both relief and disappointment. Unaware she’d been holding her breath, she exhaled deeply.
Several times over the course of the evening, Savannah caught Antoine’s dark eyes watching her. Her emotions roiled in confusion while the performers played Barber’s Adagio for Strings. The way he held her gaze without blinking made her squirm in the burgundy armchair. The rising tension and resolution from the violin and cello underscored her tumultuous emotions. She smiled at him briefly and focused on the musicians, aware of how her heartbeat had escalated. When she glanced again at Antoine, he still watched her unabashed, as if unconcerned about what the others would think. He took a sip of Porto, nodded her way, and then returned his attention to the musicians. She sat up straighter and crossed her legs at the ankles, then uncrossed them, and crossed them again. The attraction was becoming more difficult to ignore.
In light of how he breached the physical distance by touching her so earlier, she feared she’d be unable to keep her desires hidden much longer. She’d developed an instant crush since she arrived at the castle three months before. How could she not be—he was a renowned sculptor with a devastating, dark appeal. What was she to him than just another young resident who would be gone in three months, replaced by another.
Was she reading more into the brief exchange than was warranted? It’s just a look. Only a casual glance my way. Even as she attempted to fool herself, she knew she was full of shit.

Dark Wolf Enterprises by A.M. Griffin

Genre: Paranormal Romance

He’s leaving me.
The thought ripped through her mind. Then an instant later, another thought eased the first.
He’d never leave me. I belong to him.
She’d no time to pick apart the last thought because, on the next blink, Kristof—the wolf—was standing outside of her window—watching her.
She knew it was him and not some other wolf, she felt he was hers. Their eyes locked. A part of her wanted to shrink away under his stare, but the other…wanted to claim him.
The cockpit door creaked open and the pilot peered at her. Yelping she raised her gun and aimed. Screaming, he shut the door before she could fire off a shot.
“Come out here and I’ll kill you! Do you see what happened to your buddies?” Her hands shook as she aimed the gun.
She was going to die. There was a man-wolf killer outside and a pilot-kidnapper in here.
Another glance outside and Kristof stood, as a man, watching her. A naked man.A wonderfully naked man.
She shook her head.
Wolf-beast.
“Trudy. Open the hatch. I’m coming back up,” He yelled out to her.”
Was she supposed to let him back in? He hadn’t said that.
She chewed on her lower lip, waiting for an answer she couldn’t think of. If she opened the door would he attack her? Was he a rabid beast who couldn’t control himself?
She shook her head. “No. You said not to open the hatch.”
“I meant don’t open the hatch for them.”
“Since I know your secret are you going to kill me now?”
“Don’t be silly. It’s cold out here. Open the hatch.”
Should she let him back in?
“Are the pilots still alive?” he asked.
Her gaze shot back to the cockpit. “Yes. But not for long,” she yelled, loud enough for the pilots to hear.
“I’m naked and it’s about thirty degrees out here. Can you please let me in?”
“Wh-what about your super-human heating abilities? Aren’t you supposed to be so hot that’d you’d melt snow?”
He cocked his head to the side. “This is not a young adult story. I’m freezing my ass off.”
“If he kills me I’m going to be so pissed,” she mumbled to herself.
